THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PORTUGUESE POSTAL CODES (ZIPCODE/PIN CODE) AND POSTAL SERVICES
Portal ZIP codes are a little confusing, but not as confusing as India or similar countries’ ZIP codes. Here is everything you need to know about the country as well as how the ZIP Code works:
- Portuguese postal codes (código postal) are written as a sequence of seven digits, for example 1002-345. (This replaces the old system of P-1234.)
- The first digit represents one of the nine postal regions, followed by two digits for the postal distribution centres.
- If the post code is for a capital of a municipality the fourth digit is a zero, if not it is a five. In the case of a designated address it is any other digit.
The last three digits help figure out the building blocks and designated addresses.
